Laser Therapy, also known as Low Intensity Laser Therapy, accelerates regeneration, repair and recovery of injured muscles and provides relief from pain. While high-powered lasers are used to cut or destroy tissue, low level laser therapy is able to relieve pain and stimulate and enhance cell function.
Laser Therapy has become a popular treatment option within professional sport therapy and is often recommended as part of an overall pain management program. It works by activating endorphins to provide a natural pain relief, while stimulating blood flow to tissues to speed up the healing process.
HOW DOES LASER THERAPY WORK
Using hand held lasers that are pressed against the skin, laser light passes through each layer where it reaches the target structures and is absorbed. The laser activates Cytochrome Oxidase which modulates the function of the targeted cells, stimulating them to become healthy again. After the cell absorbs the laser's light, it starts the healing process, resulting in a normalised cell that is free of damage while leaving the surrounding capillaries and cells untouched with no residual damage.
Some of the more common ailments Laser Therapy can help manage include:
- general pain
- tendon and ligament injuries
- arthritis/joint pain, including degenerative joint conditions
- soft tissue injuries and muscle strains
- neurological pain
- chronic non-healing wounds
- musculoskeletal disorders
- pre and post surgery, including post-operative pain
As a non-surgical treatment that doesn’t require sedation, Laser treatment has been shown to increase cell growth, metabolic activity, macrophage activity and vascular activity as well as reduce fibrous tissue formation and pain. Laser Therapy is a powerful, fast and painless therapy, with traditional acupuncture needles not required. In doing so, damaged cells are stimulated to become healthy again. Unlike many conventional medications, Laser treatment has no nasty side effects. At Laser Acupuncture Clinic we strive to provide a service that works with your body to treat the root cause of your condition, not just mask the symptoms.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED
The number of sessions required, and their length, will vary depending on the condition being treated. Sessions may vary between fifteen minutes up to an hour. Research shows that for some conditions it may be more effective to treat at lower doses more often, than to treat at a high dose once or twice. Your plan for treatment will be discussed at your first consultation and tailored to meet your scheduling and financial situation.
